Stranded in San Francisco

We have had great fraternal and pastoral celebrations for the centenary here in San Francisco, the most recent one in Burlingame on Thursday last. Because of missed information, I should not have been present in Burlingame, as I was booked back to Europe on Thursday afternoon. But Mother Nature intervened, and after three hours at San Fran Int airport my flight was cancelled - along with many others - because of the hazards created by the volcano in Iceland.  Terence also was cancelled and we have both been working hard at trying to make the most of the ill-wind.It has not been too difficult for us as the friars are experts in hospitality. And the friary is only ten minutes from the airport
But my heart goes out to all those stranded at airports, especially those caught without money or with children. Please God things will straighten themselves out soon.
In the meantime thanks to all who are showing humanitarian and christian concern by feeding the hungry and looking after the needy.

Dear Peter,

meanwhile you have the chance to see, how wonderful mother earth can be a simbol of the creature, I got the letter to Pope Benedict.

I am bothered by the letter of the Franciscan General Ministers http://www.ofm.org/ofm/?p=716&lang=en#more-716 to “Mister Pope” . This letter is not worth to be called franciscan in some points. Following, I would like to inform of some observations to this letter and make some proposals:

1. For example, It would be better to write: “At this most difficult moment for the church ” and also for the franciscan family.

2. We, the brothers and sisters of the Franciscan family want to read the “ attacks coming from the ‘media’ of different countries” as a token of the time what means so much such as after the attacks also from brothers and sisters against children and youngsters we are in a situation of searching for justice for the people who were wounded by the church, particularly from the franciscan orders.

3. I am affected especially, by the unfair attacks against the journalists of the media. In general: They write what they have heard and have seen. We - franciscan people - have
to thank them because they help the injured people to open their heart and their mouth to carry in the middle of the church what they have suffered offside the church.

4. The general ministers would have to confess that they have supported some provincials not to remove those brothers from the priestly service who have used sexual force against children and youngsters. The system of dissimulation and concealment was also promoted in the Franciscan order.

5. There are missing proposals for the development and training of the brothers and sisters. They must be changed, so that such crimes do not become possible any more.

6. Particularly is missing the absence of the acknowledgement that there are brothers and sisters whom one left beyond the common connection, so that they could exercise their ecclesiastical power without control; and some have just also become delinquent there.

7. In the German-speaking space the church learns just slowly that not the church is the victim. – Thus is valid also for us that the victims are our victims, namely by those sisters and brothers who have abused the trust which was brought to the dress of St. Francis.

8. I would like to understand, why the Franciscan general ministers could write such a text, although they receive so many news about victims in the franciscan space, nevertheless, just during these days, and also have already known before about it.

I wait for a clearing word of the Franciscan general ministers. And ask for a correction of the letter.

Thank you for every engagement.

Fraternally

Peace an all Good
